Iceland - Day 6 & 7

DAY 6

Bye Akureyri! We will miss this vibrant cool town! Now we're off to our next destination which is Olasfvik in the north western part of Iceland.

On our way to Olasfvik, we passed this crater which is pretty cool. We stopped to take pictures of it but there was no road to get closer to it. You'll be amazed at how many craters are in Iceland!

To get to Olafsvik, you have to drive through mountains which is pretty amazing but scary at the same time. usually there are no guard rails. The drive up the mountains was foggy. It was a little bit scary but we made it out of the fog.

Once we got out of the mountains and the fog, the skies were clear and it was beautiful. we were super close in reaching Olafsvik which is right on the harbor and is a small fishing town.

We rented a small double room from Welcome Apartments for about $118 USD. Parking and internet was free and there was a restaurant at ground level. The apartment was pretty big and you get your own kitchen and bathroom. It's also walking distance to the grocery store and restaurants. It's also right by the harbor.

This was our view from the apartment. You can see it's a very small town but a lot of friendly people. We decided to wash our rental since it was dirty from driving from the mountain. But look at the mountain and fog behind us.

We went to Kirkjufell but it was foggy around this part so you couldn't the top of the mountain. But it was still a pretty cool site to visit. I recommend coming here when it's not foggy out. This is only about a 10 minute drive from Olafsvik.

We had dinner at Hraun Restaurant. I ordered the surf and turf with fries. E ordered the chili cheese fries with pulled pork and creamy fish soup. The food was delicious. We do recommend eating here but there are other restaurants that are close by if you wanted to try something different.

On our way back from dinner, there's a little stand that sells fish and chips. We wanted to try it to see if it was just as good as the ones we've tried in other parts of Iceland. It definitely was crunchy and yummy. But I still think Akureyri has the best fish and chips.

DAY 7

This is our last night in Iceland so we left Olafsvik and headed to Kleflavik which is in the south western part of Iceland.

We rented a double room from Bjork-Inn Apartments & Room for $128 USD. The room was small with a small sink and fridge. The bathroom was shared. Fortunately, we were the only ones there that night so we had the bathroom to ourselves.

For lunch we went to Malai Thai Restaurant to try out Thai food in Iceland. They had sets that you can order which came with a variety of food. The set we ordered came with fried noodles, spring rolls, curry, and chicken. The food tasted more Chinese than Thai which we don't really recommend for those who want authentic Thai food.

For dinner, we ordered a lobster pizza from a local pizza place across from our apartment. I wish there were more lobsters on this pizza but it was really delicious and I really do recommend trying pizza out in Iceland. Do order one that has toppings that you've never tried before.

We decided to walk around the harbor and reminisce about our trip. We couldn't believe it was coming to an end. The week came and flew by even though it felt like we just got there.

The next morning, our flight left early and we came back to the states. We miss Iceland so much and plan to return in the future.

Until next time, see you soon Iceland!
