Iceland - Day 4

This day, we left Skogar. One thing we'll miss about Skogar is Skogafoss BUT we will not miss the hotel! Our final destination is to get to Hofn. But along the way, we made a few stops to see the beautiful views.

In Iceland, there are sheep and lambs everywhere! These two lambs were in the middle of the road!

About 30 minutes away was Vik and Black Sand Beach. Black Sand Beach is definitely beautiful and worth checking out. We stopped in Vik to do some grocery shopping at the Bonus Grocery Store and to gas up.

This is how the gas pump looks. It's pay at the pump with a chip card and it's in liters.

This is another shot of Black Sand Beach. We spent about a hour just taking in the view.

For lunch, we decided to try out food from Black Sand Beach Restaurant (https://www.svartafjaran.com/) since it was nearby. They have restrooms, food, alcohol and some souvenirs. The food is on the pricier side but you can get hot dogs for cheap in their outside booth.

E ordered the Black Beach Burger for $18 USD (2190 Icelandic Krona) and the Icelandic Beer for $6.58 USD (800 Icelandic Krona). I ordered Fish and Chips for $21.29 USD (2590 Icelandic Krona). The fish definitely tastes different than back in the United States. The chips are also very crispy. The burger was a bit salty but the chips was a good contrast.

We were on our way to Skaftafell which is another waterfall at a National Park. Along the way, we saw this amazing scenery with greenery and ice/snow alongside each other so we had to stop to take a picture.

We finally made it to Glacier Lagoon. It was so beautiful. The weather was perfect. There were not that many people so we were able to take a lot of pictures. There's also a hill that you can walk up to get a view of the entire lagoon.

We took this photo on top of the hill to get this entire view.

Next we went to Diamond Beach which was only a walk from Glacier Lagoon. The reason why this is called Diamond Beach is because there were ice on the shore that looks as clear as diamond. Out in the ocean, you can see ice floating out to sea. We spent about 30 minutes capturing pictures of ice that came from the glaciers.

We drove a hour to get to Hofn where we'll be staying for the night. Hofn is a fishing town in the southeastern part of the country. It has that small town feel and some of the most beautiful views.

We rented a queen room from Hotel Edda for $193.85 USD. The rooms were a good size and the bathrooms were not shared. This was definitely better than the Hotel Edda in Skogar. The hotel is located near the harbor and is in walking distance from restaurants.

For dinner, we walked about 5 minutes to a restaurant called Pakkhus (http://www.pakkhus.is/). It was right by the harbor and a lot of people were dining in. The atmosphere was very casual and the people are very nice.

E ordered the Sheep Tenderloins with potatoes and vegetables. The tenderloins were tender and not tough. It was full of flavor and the sauce that came with the dish gave it a nice kick. I ordered the salmon and shrimp with potatoes and vegetables in this great yummy sauce. The salmon tasted fresh, crisp and tender. The white sauce was a nice combination with the whole dish. We both ordered Icelandic drinks and it was refreshing. Lastly, we ordered the homemade ice cream parfait. It was really delicious and a nice treat to end our dinner.

After our very fulfilling dinner, we walked passed a food truck that sold fish and chips. We couldn't resist it so we decided to order some to go. The fish was fried to perfection and when you take a bite, the fish melts in your mouth. This tasted better than the fish and chips we got from Black Sand Beach Restaurant. However, I didn't care for the chips (fries).

After this, we headed back to the hotel to sleep because our next destination is to go to Akureyri which is in the northern part of Iceland.
